shine on you :: four

It's "shine on you," issue 4 and I'm smiling about sharing this photo with you. It's the work of Akos and it made me take a breath...and say "oh." He captured a sense of white, wide open, quiet space and it's artful and expansive. There's a whole world of pinpoint touches in there...or out there. I do love to wander into an image...especially when, like here, it feels like there is endless light and space and the longer I look, the more the potential unfolds.

This is beautiful.

shine on you :: three

week 3 of my new weekly project: shining the light on another photographer whose image has captured my attention during the week. the idea is to let someone know their work is noticed, appreciated, even admired...and to reflect a bit on why this image works so well.

This is Staale N's photo "Swans on the Rocks," and it stills me.

Looking at it slows me down and makes me feel content. It soaks in almost like a haunting...the good kind, that is. It evokes "the good stuff."

I've enjoyed it so much that I wanted to show it to you.

shine on you :: two

Week two of shining the light on another photographer who has caught my attention.

Meet macsoapy (Gabriele Kappes), a woman of many faces. I've been watching as she works her way through a 365 project of self portraits and she amazes me with her apparently limitless imagination and versatility. I get the sense from these images that she is full of curiosity and play, not afraid to explore and experiment...and it shows. If you click here, you will be giving yourself a bit of fun and a stir to your gray matter.

caught my attention

Here's a photo to notice and a photographer to pay attention to.

I was taken by the lines....the light one that zig zags down his leg, the white one he's dancing on, the black one running off behind his feet...all pulling my eye to the point -- the highlights on the shoes, frozen in motion. He does some good stuff!

a new today...a new direction

a photo a day from late May 2007 until today...787 photos! That's a lot of looking, a lot of seeing, experimenting & learning. A lot of sitting down at the end of a work day and getting lost in exploring an image's possibilities. A lot of looking up hours later to find that whatever part of the day had followed me home was completely erased. A good thing.

If you go back to my first post you'll read that I was reluctant to commit to a whole year, but felt like a month was more within reach. You never know until you try...and now, 787 photos later, I know that this is a good place to take a right (or left) turn.

so, this is a new today and a new direction...and we'll see where it goes.

Two intentions:
1. begin posting my images in both their before and after versions...and maybe talking a bit about what happened between the two.
2. post, probably on a weekly basis, photos by other photographers that have caught my eye and admiration..and again, maybe a bit about what & why.

This feels like the start of a new school year...I'm only about a month early.
